As a boy, I listened half-heartedly as my father operated our family's stereo console system in the living room to play selected melodies from his Japanese pop music collection that he had purchased during the 1950s and 1960s. After he passed away in 2004, I inherited his record collection that he had stored in a hinged metallic case.
