Telegram member asks me, "How old am I?"
Instead of disclosing my age, I answered her question by providing historical references
When I was growing up, America had an industrial base and motorists could buy gasoline for less than 30 cents a gallon. Coins minted by the United States Treasury contained silver, and families could buy a decent home for $15,000 or less. Americans relied upon just three television networks (ABC, NBC and CBS) for news, such as the assassination of President Kennedy or the funeral for Winston Churchill.
Air travelers were not subjected to surveillance scanners and people could meet and greet their friends and family members at the gate. Reading, writing, and arithmetic were standard subjects taught in school and were not considered racist or a form of White Supremacy. Finally, common words such as rainbow, diversity, pride, sustainable, and gay evoked a much different reader response than what they do today.
